5-Amino-1MQ

5-amino-1-methylquinolinium

Research use onlySmall molecule

NNMT enzyme inhibitor studied for fat metabolism in mice.

Structure

C10H11N2+ (small molecule, not a peptide)

What it is

5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule that blocks nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that is highly active in fat tissue. It is usually sold as oral capsules or as a powder and is not a peptide.

How it works

NNMT uses up methyl groups and nicotinamide, a building block of NAD+. Blocking it is thought to raise NAD+ and SAM levels inside fat cells, which increases energy use and reduces fat storage in animal models.

What the research shows

  • In mice fed a high-fat diet, an NNMT inhibitor of this class reduced body weight and fat cell size and lowered cholesterol without changing food intake (Neelakantan et al., Biochemical Pharmacology, 2018).
  • Some animal work suggests effects on aged muscle stem cells.
  • No published controlled human trials.

Regulatory status

Not approved for any use. Preclinical research compound.

Storage and handling

Keep the powder or capsules sealed, dry and away from heat and light.

Reconstitution math

To work out concentration, volume and U-100 syringe units for any vial size, use the reconstitution calculator with 5-Amino-1MQ selected. Always confirm the vial content against the label and the batch's certificate of analysis.
